Links and resources

Here are a few links to books and websites we have used and are using. We will periodically update it as we go along.

Food
Friends had recommended Annabel Karmel's book, and rightly so. It has some lovely photography and cute illustrations. A well laid out cook book with lots of recipes. Perhaps a bit more nutrition info would have been nice. Then again, not everyone wants to study this at depth. A must buy.
Annabel Karmel – New Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner  Amazon

We also like this one:
Carol Timperley – Baby & Child Vegetarian Recipes Amazon
It is less pretty than Karmel's book but has a ton of good recipes. It is also quite detailed on the nutritional facts.

In addition we have:
Brenda Davis & Vesanto Melina – Becoming Vegan Amazon

Although not specifically for babies this is a great resource book which we use for reference.

Sharon K. Yntema and Christine H. BeardVegetarian Baby Amazon
Full of facts and detailed information about what and how much a baby needs, this one was a great buy.

Language and Speech development

Harding-Esch – The Bilingual Family: A Handbook for Parents

Annika Bourgogne – Be Bilingual - Practical Ideas for Multilingual Families

Nicola Lathey,  Tracey Blake – Small Talk: Simple ways to boost your child's speech and language development from birth
Although very interesting with plenty of practical tips on speech development, I found it could have had more references throughout to affirm that this is a researched and scientifically sound book. Nevertheless I did enjoy reading it and would recommend it.

Baby development and care

Heidi E. Murkoff (Author), Sharon Mazel (Contributer) – What to expect the first year
Has handy advice with easy Q&A style which you can even "read" when you're pretty tired. Just one at a time, or skipping through.

Hetty van de Rijt Ph.D. (Author), Frans Plooij Ph.D (Contributer) . – The Wonder Weeks
In many ways this is a fabulous book and in other ways it did annoy us when it came to the accuracy of the weeks. The research is fabulous and the science behind it all seems sound. Yet it is sold as a definitive guide, but then keeps pointing out that everything is approximate and can change. Still, I enjoyed it and at 12 months we are still using it occasionally.
